Health -ASRHR and NCDs.
Ugunja Development Initiative, through collaboration with the Siaya County government and development partners, strives to enhance advocacy for action on health issues affecting its residents at the community level. UDI strives to strengthen the referral systems and documentation to enhance service uptake and improve service delivery through a cordial relationship between the service providers, referring agents (CHVs, PE, and CHC), and the community. The UDI implementation framework and strong partnership, collaboration, and networking are designed to enable the community to significantly contribute towards the reduction of maternal and child-related morbidity and mortality, increase family planning uptake, and identification and prevention of communicable and non-communicable diseases. Further, UDI strives to promote equitable access to integrated mental health services to the community with particular attention to children, youth, young women, and young people with disability by increasing access to quality integrated mental health care, education opportunities, leadership involvement, and overall respect for human rights.
Gender Based Violence.
UDI is committed to working closely with all the partners, administration and line government ministries in capacity strengthening of communities through advocacy on eliminating gender based violence forms, reporting systems, justice process among others in all formal and informal social gatherings/platforms through meaningful involvement of all stakeholders and partners at county, sub county, ward and community levels.
Economic empowerment
Economic empowerment is the capacity of women and men to participate in, contribute to and benefit from growth processes in ways that recognize the value of their contributions, respect their dignity and make it possible to negotiate a fairer distribution of the benefits of growth. Through this program, UDI intend to increase women’s access to economic resources and opportunities including jobs, financial services, property and other productive assets, skills development and market information through partnership and collaboration.
Special interest groups initiative
UDIs purpose for special interest group is to advocate for rights and services and influence government policies to benefit the group’s cause.
Water, Sanitation and Hygiene.
Ugunja Development Initiative through collaboration with the Siaya County government and other agencies plans to undertake WASH activities to improve the household and school sanitation through contribution to access to clean water and utilization of toilets to improve the general hygiene of its residents.
Climate change
At Ugunja Development Initiative we are concerned with the poor environmental conservation program and anticipates focusing on enhancing tree planting, waste management and promoting agri-business amongthe youths. We will forge partnerships to strengthen capacity of the communities on modern farming methods and supplying seeds through established groups within the communities for tree planting. However, UDI also anticipate to enhance waste management at both public and household levels.
Education-Mentorship and life skills education
Through collaboration, UDI intent to contribute to promoting equal access to education through implementing scholarship programs, create after-school support systems and advocate for policies promoting inclusive education. Further, UDI continue to provide and facilitate mentorship and life skills education to adolescents and youths in and out of school, strengthen health clubs and guiding and counseling departments and strengthen health clubs, carrier guidance and skill mismatch.
Leadership and governance.
Effective leadership inspires, motivates, and guides individuals and groups toward common goals while governance ensures that systems and institutions operate fairly, transparently, and in the best interest of the people. UDI continue to advocate for good governance through civic education, and social accountability campaigns, including the rights of vulnerable groups by establishing community forums for open dialogue, create educational materials on rights, and organize community-led monitoring of governance practices.
Syndemic diseases (Malaria, TB and STIs).
Development Initiatives plays a pivotal role in disease campaigns by fostering community-based initiatives, policy advocacy, and capacity building. Through strategic partnerships with the county government health department, UDI supports integrated approaches on prevention, management of malaria, TB and other co-occurring conditions. We also mobilize youth and local leaders for civic education, promotes data-driven interventions, and contributes to the development of inclusive health policies. UDI also engages in public forums and county planning processes to ensure Syndemic diseases are prioritized in development agendas, aligning efforts with Kenya’s Vision 2030 and Universal Health Coverage goals.
